Caroline Masson and Ashleigh Simon carded nine-under-par rounds of 63 to lead the way on the first day of the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
German Masson, a Solheim Cup hopeful, produced a flawless round, while South African Simon birdied the last five holes in her score as the pair made use of excellent morning conditions.
They are three shots clear of a trio at six under, made up of Rebecca Artis, Klara Spilkova and Ann-Kathrin Lindner.
Cheyenne Woods, the niece of 14-time major winner Tiger, also made a strong start to the tournament as she looks to book a place at next week's British Open.
The 23-year-old dropped just one shot, at the par-four first, in a fine round of 67 to lie four behind the leaders and is keen to improve on her efforts in Madrid last week, where she faded after a strong opening first day.
She told ladieseuropeantour.com: "I felt like I played really steady. One bogey, I felt like I hit the ball well so overall it was a good day,
"I definitely learned last week through experiencing it, so this week I feel really good.
"I'm just going to continue to play steady and not worry about today's [Friday's] round. Tomorrow [Saturday] is a new day and I'll just continue my strong play the rest of the week."
Woods, who has a highest finish of tied for 12th on the European Tour this year, is part of a five-strong group at five under par.
The America is joined by Bree Arthur, Scotland's Kylie Walker, Diana Luna and Marion Ricordeau.
Walker was the highest-placed British hope, with England's Charley Hull at four under.
